You’ve probably seen the commercials lately for the “design your own kitchen” concept from IKEA. Like other products from IKEA, quality far exceeds the price. And this is encouraging news when you’re remodeling on a budget.
Reviewers have said that the kitchen cabinets are as good (if not better) than more expensive brands—a truly good value for the price. But some elements of the IKEA kitchen may not match up to the competition.
One of the things to consider when planning an IKEA kitchen makeover is that you don’t have to get everything for your new kitchen from IKEA, although you certainly can. They do have everything you need, from countertops to ranges, refrigerators, sinks, etc. Use your own judgment. In many cases, true granite countertops may provide a sturdier and more attractive look. You may prefer the quality of brand-name appliances.
The choice is all yours, but keep in mind that it’s okay to mix and match with IKEA to create your own dream kitchen. With that in mind, look at IKEA’s kitchens for inspiration but don’t feel stuck with only what IKEA has to offer. Maybe you’ll decide to do a partial remodel and keep some of your existing kitchen. Or combine IKEA elements (like backsplashes, lighting and islands) with high end flooring, countertops and appliances.
That’s one of the best things about decorating with IKEA—everything is available individually.
